1 задание "Великие ученые"

Guess who  they are ( О ком из учёных идет речь?)

a)… is a well- known scientist.

He was born at the beginning of the 19^th century, in 1809.

As a boy, he collected all kinds of things: mineral, birds’ eggs, and insects.

His nickname was “Gas”.

After 3 years of study at Cambridge University he made a voyage round the world.

During the voyage he studied many different kinds of plants in all parts of the world.

His theory of evolution opened a new period in the development of the science of biology.

He died in 1882 and was buried in Westminster Abby.

b)… a famous Russian physiologist. He was born in 1849 and died in 1936. From his childhood days he demonstrated intellectual brilliance along with a superhuman energy which he named "the instinct for research". The concept for which he is famous is the "conditioned reflex"(условный рефлекс) He won the Nobel Prize for physiology in 1904

c) He was born in 1907 in Zhytomyr, died in 1966 in Moscow. He was the lead Soviet rocket engineer and spacecraft designer in the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the 1950s and 1960s. He is considered by many as the father of practical astronautics. He was a Member of Soviet Academy of Sciences  

d) He was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist and theologian, who has been "considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived." He was born in 1842 and died in 1727.His monograph Philosophy Naturalise Principia Mathematic, published in 1687, lays the foundations for most of classical mechanics. Built the first practical reflecting telescope

e) He was a Russian rocket scientist and pioneer of the astronautic theory. He was born in 1857and died in 1935. He is considered the father of spaceflight. He worked as a high school mathematics teacher until retiring in 1920. During his lifetime he published approximately 90 works on space travel.

State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga now bears his name.
